Women, girls, and 2SLGBTQ* people still face violence around the world. Here in Manitoba, we’re taking real, concrete action to combating gender-based violence across government.
We’re investing in Indigenous-led and community-informed programs with over $21 million in funding to more than 30 agencies providing support for people affected by family violence.
We’re working with the Government of Canada on the National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence with over $22 million in funding over four years to support local programs and services.
We were the first province to launch the survivors of gender-based violence stream of the Canada-Manitoba Housing Benefit, connecting survivors with low-barrier safe housing.
We’re providing free access to birth control to all Manitobans, making sure you’re free to choose when you bring children into your family.
We’re investing $20 million in Mino’Ayaawag Ikwewag, a strategy focused on spiritual, emotional, physical and mental well-being for Indigenous women, girls, two spirit and gender-diverse people.
We’re increasing supports through Victim Services, including specialized victim services workers, a regional domestic violence specialist, and expanded partnerships with regional community-based organizations for victims of intimate partner violence.
We’re proclaiming the Disclosure to Protect Against Intimate Partner Violence Act (Clare’s Law) and we have reintroduced Bill 2, also known as Keira’s law, requiring provincial court judges to take continuing education on intimate partner violence, coercive control in intimate partner and family relationships, and other key topics.
There’s more work to do. Our government won’t stop until every Manitoba woman and girl is safe from violence and free to build a good life here in Manitoba. Our government is taking action on gender-based violence every single day of the year, because we know a Manitoba without gender-based violence is a better, safer Manitoba for everyone.
